My name is Shawnee and I'm the breeder behind Rockindachs. I have been a dachshund lover since the first one I met when I was five or six years old. My neighbor's dog used to escape from his yard to come and play with us kids. His fun-loving and sweet personality won us all over. It wasn't long before my family got a dachshund of our own and my love for the breed continued to grow as did our pack. Now I can't imagine my life without dachshunds.
My breeding journey started with my mother, the owner of Spottachs Kennels. She was the one who first introduced me to life as a breeder, both of dogs and other animals. I grew up on a small farm where breeding was a big part of life. From pets to livestock, I’ve had a lot of experience bringing new life into the world.
RockinDachs was officially born in 2014 when I got married and decided to start my own program, with my mom's help and support. I started with just two females as my base. Those of you who have been following RockinDachs from the start will remember our sweet matriarch Ann and beautiful Ruby. Both of these girls came with me from SpottaDachs.
Over the years we’ve had dogs come and go here at RockinDachs but we remain true to our mission: breeding healthy and happy pets for every family. We still have those original bloodlines thanks to our current stud, Dexter, who is a grandson of Ruby.
While we did take a break from breeding for a little bit there we never stopped believing that, despite some of the stigma, dachshunds can be wonderful companions for any home. This drives us to look for balanced temperaments and good conformation. We always evaluate our breeding dogs to ensure they meet our standards. Sometimes this means that dogs we've raised or brought into our pack don't stay long-term.
So what do we look for in our dogs? We breed miniature dachshunds that are long and low with straight and strong backs and muscular bodies. We believe in staying as close as we can to the breed's original structure and distinctive look.
We value dogs that are intelligent, outgoing, loyal, and friendly. We try to breed dogs that have a balanced temperament this way we can breed the perfect puppy companion for any family. We recognize that every puppy has its own personality regardless of their parent's temperament which is why we carefully evaluate each puppy to make sure we match them with a home that meets their individual needs and that they bring value to. We never want our puppy families to feel like their dog is a burden or a bad fit for their home. We also understand life doesn’t always work out the way we plan and will always take one of our puppies back regardless of why.
